We can all be a little “Dumbastic” on occasion

"Dumbastic" I truly wish I had conjured the word, but alas it was way before my time. This week Business 2.0 released its 101 Dumbest Moments in Business from 2006. It’s a cavalcade of  what they call “the year’s biggest boors, buffoons, and blunderers." From laying off employees via e-mail, to embarrassing moves from those in the corner office, to marketing mishaps and horrid customer service. Many of these brilliant actions coming from the likes of Fortune 500 companies.

Look,  no one-person or company for that matter can claim perfection, mistakes are rampant in the world of business and the media will always be there salivating ready to run with the latest blunder. I for one enjoyed rolling through these mishaps for the following reasons.

  • Some of them were completely ridiculous.
  • Others painfully screamed of how unaware upper management can be regarding the treatment of their employees and such media will hopefully instigate better practices.
  • Many incidents indicate a society run-a-muck in desperate need to preserve the bottomline – the almighty dollar.
  • All underscore the need for some real hard-core value-consciousness training in the way in which we treat one another, especially on the job in the face of fierce competition.

The moral of the story: We are all human, we all make mistakes, and there’s lots of room for improvement in the way big business treats and takes care of their Human Capital.
