Upping the Ante for Gen Y Talent

It appears all this talk about a tight job market due to baby boomer brain drain is reflected in some keen recruiting techniques. Check out Career Diva, Eve Tahmincioglu’s MSNBC column, Job Perks Galore for Twenty-Somethings. Very funny stuff, including the story of a company that invited a new hire’s mom to greet her baby on the first day of work.

Here’s an excerpt:

Companies from an array of industries, everything from auto to health care, are pulling out all the stops to attract these individuals who are technologically savvy, pros at networking, and often self-indulgent although also socially conscious.

Gen Yers — born roughly between 1980 and 2000 — have hit the jackpot. We’re talking flat-screen televisions and iPods, free food for college kids, paid tuition, travel-abroad programs and a host of opportunities to save the planet.

I blogged on the Gen X and Gen Y dudes and dudettes back in August. I cited a poll in the UK which hinted at the potential crisp attitude and demands that employers might be seeing down the pike within the real- time-generation job pool. You can read more about that in my post, WorkLife Balance: Real Time Generation Won’t Settle for Anything Less, but it appears in Eve’s column that the Gen Y’s are taking the lead.
